Tree planting, mangrove restoration, and the daily impact of Generali Philippines’ partnership with Forest Foundation Philippines.
Last 2nd of May, Generali Philippines visited Siruma, Camarines Sur to take part in ongoing forest conservation and reforestation work. The trip focused on practical efforts: tree planting, mangrove restoration, and connecting with the local community that protects these natural resources.
A Growing Partnership for Greener Forests
Almost a year ago, in June 2024, Generali Philippines began its partnership with Forest Foundation Philippines. The goal: to support long-term conservation by planting trees for every retail Assist product sold. In less than a year, this collaboration has already contributed to healthier forests, stronger coastlines, and greater awareness of the role local communities play in caring for nature.
Getting to Siruma
The journey began with a flight from Manila to Naga, followed by a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Siruma. The rain welcomed the group—a reminder that in Siruma, nature sets the pace. The landscape was lush, green, and full of life.
Conservation in Action: Mangrove Planting
The main activity was mangrove planting in Sitio Diac. Close to twenty members of the community joined in, including children. Everyone rolled up their sleeves and got into the mud, working side by side to plant new mangroves along the shoreline. These mangroves aren’t just trees, they serve as natural barriers, protecting homes from storms and supporting local biodiversity.
Community and Local Food
After the morning’s work, the community welcomed everyone to Gayon Park with a hearty meal. The spread included inihaw na isda (grilled fish), laing (prepared mild for guests), shrimp, adobong pusit, sinigang na hipon, and Filipino favorites like pancit, biko, and puto flan. Fresh buko juice was served straight from the coconut.
The meal was more than just food. It was a chance to sit with the local community, and hear about the daily life in Siruma—how the mangroves protect their families and why they take pride in these conservation efforts.
Learning from Siruma
Throughout the trip, the group listened to community leaders explain the importance of mangroves and local trees, how long they take to grow, and the direct impact they have on protecting both homes and livelihoods. These conservation projects are essential not just for Siruma, but for the future of many communities along the coast.
Why This Trip Was a Success
This trip was a success because it showed the direct impact of working together for conservation. By joining local efforts in tree planting and mangrove restoration, the group saw firsthand how daily actions protect Siruma’s environment and support its people. The community’s openness and hospitality made each activity meaningful, turning a simple visit into a true learning experience.
Every small effort made during this trip—planting, sharing stories, or simply being present—helped support Siruma’s ongoing work in conservation and showed what’s possible when people and organizations work together for the environment.
Make Every Trip Meaningful, Even from Home
Every time a Generali Assist product is purchased, a tree is planted through the partnership with Forest Foundation Philippines. This ongoing project helps protect places like Siruma and supports local communities, one tree at a time.
