Philippines is in its 8th month of rolling out its COVID-19 vaccination program. In November 5, a nationwide roll out of vaccination for minors has officially started; prioritizing those minors with comorbidities. Recently, a COVID-19 Delta subvariant AY.4.2 has been newly discovered and believed to be more contagious than the Delta variant. Philippines’ Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) has released its recommendation on COVID-19 booster dose to health workers this 4th quarter of 2021. Priority groups on vaccination may be qualified to receive the booster shot by 2022. Questions on safety still remains; are the available COVID-19 vaccines safe to be administered to minors, and if the COVID-19 initial and booster doses can protect us against the emerging variants.
Let us listen to Dr. Anna Ong-Lim, Professor and Chief of Division of Infectious and Tropical Disease in Pediatrics College of Medicine – Philippine General Hospital University of the Philippines Manila, as she updates us on COVID-19, and ways to protect ourselves and loved ones against.
